1871 Birmingham/Aston lookup for Mary Elizabeth WOODMAN please
« on: Tuesday 09 November 04 19:24 GMT (UK) »
Is it possible that some kind soul would look up the 1871 census for Mary Elizabeth WOODMAN.

I know she was born in Slimbridge Glos in 1860 as she appears with her parents in the 1861 Worcestershire census, however she isn't on the 1871 Birmingham census.

I don't believe she was dead as I believe she married John Henry Slater in Staffordshire in 1880/81.

My question is then where was the 10/11 year old Mary Elizabeth in 1871.  Is that too young for girls to have been in service?

I know this is a big ask looking for one single person, but if it is possible I would be eternally grateful.

Many thanks for any help.

Ali.

Hello Moscan and thankyou, yes it is the right family.  I do know that Alfred (on the image) at least remained in Bedfordshire and married a girl from Great Barford, they then moved to At Albans in Hertfordshire by the 1901 census.

However I am now very confused.

The 1861 census for Worcestershire states that Mary Elizabeth is Henry and Mary's grand-daughter aged 11 months, daughter of Samuel and Rhoda Woodman.

Hmm, me thinks another birth certificate is definitely on the cards here and soon.

Wonder what relation the visiting Samuel Woodman is though, he is too young to be their son Samuel.

Have to say though there are numerous Woodman's in the family from all over Gloucestershire so it is never ending confusion with them.

One thing though, I know Henry was dead by the 1881 census, so at least I now know he didn't die in Gloucestershire, so it will narrow the search for his grave down a tad.

Thanks once again

Ali.

Ali,

I've just joined Roots Chat and while searching came across your various posts in respect of the Woodman side of your family - clearly we are related going back to Samnuel Woodman & Dinah Heaven in Frocester around 1721.

Although I've been researching the Woodmans over 30 yrs I have been unable to prove the alledged link between the Frocester family and the Rissington families.

Can you confirm the source of you link?

Thanks

Dave

Hello Dave.

Sorry for the late reply but I haven't been on the site for a while.

Unfortunately, since I posted these messages like you I am unable to find any link between the Great Rissington Woodmans and the Frocester lot.  Samuel seems to have appeared in Frocester out of thin air and as I am sure you know is the first mention of a Woodman there.

Which branch of the Woodman clan do you belong to?
