Thanks for the responses.
Regarding the IGI that's a submitted entry, and part of the mass of conflicting info on the web as many Hawkins families want to connect to Sir John and have a tendency to find connections that aren't there. That's why I'm hoping to find the actual source records.
A shame about not finding the marriage records. What we know from having the wills for John Hawkins of Gt Milton and his wife (Maria in the will) are that a John Hawkins and a Mary were married, died in Gt Milton and had lands in Islip (we've traced all their children, none named Philemon). Sources like Burke's landed gentry and the Dictionary of National Biography refer to the marriage between John Hawkins and Mary Dewe, daughter of Edward Dewe of Islip, listing the same children.
But I've seen no direct sources for that marriage, which is what I'm looking for. Even a burial record for John giving his age at death would be a help. I keep running into dead ends here. Anyone have any ideas on how to move forward? Is there a John Hawkins marrying any Mary or Maria in that general area? They were buried in a church in Oxford, so the marriage could have been there.
