You mean you think Cloona is a town  not a townland?
No matter,  it establishes a link between Maughan and Loftus, but I still dont know if this is my ancestor.
I need to trace Honor Loftus' ancestor to Martin or Owen Loftus to prove my DNA link.

The LDS record says the birth was "Ballina district"

Scratch that, don't see a town or village in the area of that name or a townland so I think so it's either somewhere not showing on the usually lists or a variation of the spelling. So far ever possible I've looked at doesn't have parish registers to match those two years.
I was hoping to find those children's baptisms and than you could check out the earlier register but sadly the west coast has a lot of missing registers.

Yes Ballina registration district. It's written at the top of the page of the image of the birth.

That would be a baptism as civil registration didn't begin until 1864. Does the record include name of parish?
 Loftus is a Mayo surname so you'll find plenty.
