Burton Upon Trent=Staff. or Derby. pls?

I have an ancestor, John Calladine, (found by a relative in England) in the registers born in the quarter ended December 1849. Ref. Volume 17, Page 27. It says birthplace: Burton-Upon-Trent, Derbyshire. When I put this into google, it comes up as Staffordshire. Which one is it please?

I use genuki to check such things -

It specifies Staffordshire for the Parish and has no mention of a change, however I also found this when checking civil registrations on Genuki

So presumably your birth was in a sub-district or Parish located in Derbyshire.

Just to back up what Trish said (sorry it's ages later, but I have only just joined RC!)

Burton itself is definitely in Staffs. However, the River Trent, which Burton is 'on', forms the Staffs-Derbys county boundary, so some towns and villages that are very close to Burton are in Derbyshire, e.g. Swadlincote and Repton.

I live in Australia, but have an interest in Staffordshire as my husbands roots are there. My knowledge, consequently is all secondhand! It is really interesting and useful to hear from someone who understands the geography & the reasons for the information given in Genuki.
