Mary COOPER - Where is Cheswall Hill ?
« on: Thursday 05 October 06 17:56 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find the origis of Mary Cooper who married William Beard [born 1803 in Childs Ercall ] at Edgmond in 1833.
She was born c 1811, in Cheswall Hill, and died before the 1851 census when WIlliam had acquires another Mrs Beard called Ann born c 1804 in Chetwynd [but I can't find a marriage  ::) ] or her maiden name.

Hi,

Could it be Cheswell Hill which was just east of Cheswell?  It would certainly be in the right area.  On the old maps site it is marked as Cheswellhill.

Hi,

Yes , it is about one and a half miles SW from Newport and just below Longford on a modern map.  If you type in Church Aston on www. multimap.com and the zoom in once, you should should see  Cheswell to the left.  Cheswell hill is marked on the www.old-maps.co.uk site to the right of Cheswell.

Regards,
Mo

Are there any Coopers on the 1851 census at Church Aston ?

I am looking for a Sarah Cooper who registered the death of Mary in 1855.
I wonder if she was a sister perhaps, and then maybe I can find the family.
Mary married in 1833.

Hi,

Without an age it is difficult. However, this is the only one that stands out in the area on the 1851:

Cheswell, Longford
Thomas Cooper, H, M, 46, Farm Labourer, Longford
SARAH, wife, M, 43, Farm Labourer`s Wife, Edgmond
Robt Stevenson, Lodger, M. 34, Game Keeper, Church Eaton Staffs.

There is also an 82 year old Sarah Cooper in Newport, Lodging and a Land Holder born Patshall?, Shropshire.  ...I wonder if that is Posenhall?

Regards,
Mo

Did you find the origins of Mary Cooper m William Beard 1833? I too would be interested to know more and have not found details of their marriage. I am descended from their second child, Elizabeth Beard b 1838 Cheswell - my maternal great-great grandmother.
