1841 look up please.
« on: Thursday 05 October 06 08:23 BST (UK) »
Can someone please help?

I am looking for Mary Ann Bradley, and her father Benjamin on the 1851 census.

In 1846 Benjamin job looked like a "ROLLER"?
And in 1875 he was a Bricklayer.
I don't know his wifes name.

Thank you.

Thank you Indi  :)

I will copy it next week when I go to FRC.

At last I have a name for Mary Ann's mother.

Thank you Indi  ;)

That is great.
More children every census, where do they get their energy ?

Oh not another Lodger.
From experience, I have had 4 widows marry the lodger or next door neighbour.
Is this number 5  :-\

Happy shopping   :)

I think that this is Henry the son...in 1861

Birmingham, St. Thomas
116 Latimer St. South
Thomas Claythorn Head Wid 62 Labourer Birmingham
Henry Bradley Visitor 24 Brassfounder Birmingham
Harriet Bradley Wife 24 Birmingham
Henry Bradley Son 5 Birmingham
RG9/2136 Folio 110 Page 17

So - I wondered if Thomas Claythorn(sp)  was maybe Harriets Papa ...and he is!

Henry Bradley married Harriet Crathorn on August 1 1853.....but Yikes that would make both Henry and Harriet only 15 years old! So - I don't know what to think! ::)

I will dig some more in a while
Cheers,
India

Well Pettsy....this gets very interesting!

1871

Henry Bradley Head 44 Brassfounder Birmingham
Betsey Bradley Wife 39 Birmingham
Henry Bradley Son 15 Birmingham
Thomas Bradley Son 7 Birmingham
Henry Craythorne Son in law 17 Brassfounder Birmingham
George Craythorne Son in law 15 Brassfounder Birmingham
Alfred Craythorne Ditto 13 Ditto Birmingham
Joseph Craythorn Ditto 11 Birmingham
Arthur Craythorn  Ditto 9 Birmingham
Charles Craythorn Ditto 7 Birmingham
Betsey Craythorn Dau in law 5 Birmingham.
RG10/3104 Folio 112 Page 10

What is going on?

Well......It would seem that Harriet (Crathorn) Bradley died....June Q 1869 (born about 1837) Birmingham 6d-19.

Henry then married Harriet's brother's widow!......Betsey Crathorn.

Henry Bradley married Betsey Crathorn Dec Q 1870 Kings Norton 6c-744.

In 1861 Betsey Crathorn is married to Alfred Crathorn

Checking the IGI we find that Harriet and Alfred Crathorn (and other children) are the children of Thomas and Obedience Crathorn.....

Sooo...even with all the mis-spellings....I would be pretty sure that Henry Bradley married his sister in law.

It's odd that he added 10 years to his age in 1871....but maybe he didn't wan't anyone to know that he was younger than his wife.

Anyway....I now have a headache and must lie down.......hehehehehehe

Families...aren't they fun???

Cheers,
India
