SALFORD ... Where to go for records?

Hi there 

Ive gone as far as I can for now with regard to my Yorkshire roots so I thought I would start on the SALFORD side of the family now.

I have most certificates but I would like to go to Manchester to possibly get other information e.g  divorce papers (1906+) newspaper articles, Electoral roles etc etc


Could someone direct me where to physically go for Salford info - would it be Manchester Central Library or somewhere in Salford?

I think (but I'm sure someone will put me right on this) that most of the parish registers for Manchester/Salford area are on microfilm at Manchester Central Library. See

and also microfilm of local newspapers.

Salford Local History Library at Peel Park has lots of historical documents on Salford, (including Monumental Inscriptions for several local churches and part of Weaste Cemetery). See

Hi'ya Shellsbells,

SKB is quite correct. There is quite a distinction between Salford and Manchester and both are worth a visit.

When you go to Salford do not go on a Monday as this is there day off but please see there vast collection of trade directories this is the biggest collection I have seen in Manchester or elsewhere  there records are Salford only this is where you will find newspaper articles and electoral roles.

Ill hopefully be popping across to Bolton to go see my folks soon, so I'll more than likely go to both Manchester Central Library and Salford then.
