SCEATS in Gloucester
« on: Monday 08 November 04 13:01 GMT (UK) »
Any help would be much appreciated.

Henry Sceats(Father Thomas)
Married 10 Apr 1842, Bath to
Phoebe Ann Perkins(Father George)
Lived at Camden Cottages, Bath at this time.

Henry was a Publican at The Plough Inn in 1847

The only child for that I've got for this marriage is:

John Edwin Sceats b.28 Sep 1847 The Plough Inn, Widcombe

There must be more children out there somewhere.

Hi Darren

Are you still looking for this info?

Was the Plough Inn you mention in Bath?  if so, you need to post on the Somerset board.

kind regards, Arranroots  ;)

Hi Darren & Arranroots,

There used to be a "Sceats Memorial Home" in Gloucester, racking my brains trying to think where it was  ???

Old folks home, as I recall, in memory of a John(?) Sceats.

I will rack my brains some more  ::)

Graceland may know.

I'm a new member, just browsing through the boards, and I came across this topic. The Sceats Memorial Home is in Kenilworth Avenue, Gloucester. It originally came into being because various churches in the area wanted to open a residential home for retired church members. Mr. Caleb Sceats of Gloucester provided a large house for the purpose after local fund-raising efforts had failed to reach their target.  I believe it was originally in memory of his late wife. I know all this because my late mother was involved in the fund-raising. I don't think Mr. & Mrs. Sceats had any children to which the property could be left - but I am open to correction on this.
