McDermott Family

I am looking for information about John McDermott who had a son Henry born 1840.  The information I have about Henry's birth is that he was born in the parish of Belfast, near the town of Belfast. Henry next appeared in Yorkshire in 1858.  If anyone can help please?

I have a Great Great Grand father Patrick McDermott that I am searching for he was born in Ireland about 1807 but I don't know where.  On my Great Grand Parents  Marriage certificate in1869 Patrick McDermott lived in Ramsbottom Lancashire and was a labourer at a print works. 
My Great Grandmother Mary Ann McDermott was born in Yorkshire (3 different censuses 3 places eg Leeds, Dewsbury & Halifax.  There is no mention of a Mother but I think there were sisters. On the 1871 census at the same address as on the marriage certificate  Patrick  - father, Margeret 24 dau. Sarah dau16 Jane 13 & G/dau Mary Yates 6.  My GGMother was 22 in 1871. 

I wonder if our families are connected in some way, I have no idea what part of Ireland Patrick came from but his age in 1871 was 64.

Hi Matty

I have very little information about my great grandfather Henry McDermott.  On the 1881 and 1891 censuses for the Isle of Wight where he was living he put his place of birth as Clifford, Leeds, but when I fould his military history he stated his place of birth as Belfast.

I have checked the 1851 census for Clifford but have found only one family that may fit and they were born in Scotland - confusing!

I only know his father's name was John.

Hi Christopher, 

My Great Great Grandfather Patrick McDermott (just born Ireland) must have been in the Leeds/ Halifax area of Yorkshire in the late1840'sor early 1850's then moved to Lancashire where he died in a workhouse in Haslingden 1883.  The only other family member I have a record of is my Great Grandmother Mary Ann McDermott.

Hi Christopher,

I will try that later although I supect that he was in England mid 1840's although no proper proof yet.  Still searching for his wife's name - the Mother of Mary Ann can't find her birth - census's Leeds/Halifax and Dewsbury different each census!!!

I never give up hope and try every avenue.
