This website allows you to search for townlands, etc. in Ireland:
www.thecore.com/seanruad
You can put in part of a word and find matches. However, I tried looking for a townland ending in 'ile' in Co. Leitrim but nothing shows up.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Thanks - I tried several variations with the same result as you!

Mary Mitchell was a 19 year old Irish girl working as a maid in an English Hotel and explaining where she came from in an Irish accent to an enumerator probably with a Dorset accent!

I am hoping at some time to get to see the original census return - maybe it will be clearer than the microfilm.

But thanks again for your help.

I have Mary Mitchell married Patrick McFee DROMAHAIR Co Leitrim. The children I have are  Mary McFee 1873, Patrick 1875, Catherine 1876 and Beesey 1879. So Mary could have been born around 1850 or so. I am  trying to connect to other Mitchells from Leitrim. Any help much appreciated.

My Mary Mitchell was born in 1861 in Mohill, Co Leitrim and married an Englishman on 26th Oct 1881 in Weymouth England and died in Camberwell South London in 1921. I am pretty certain she never visited Ireland after leaving. The only other thing I know about her is that her father was James Mitchell a "shoeing blacksmith".

Given the small population of Co Leitrim there is probably a connection between our Mitchells but its not obvious so far! Actually looking on the map, Dromahair and Mohill are at opposite ends of the county but even so there are not that many Mitchells.

Let me know if any more clues turn up.
