Dear Constance, I have the EDGECOMBE / EDGCUMBE family in my tree as well.  We live in Australia and am researching my mother-in-law's lines.

Top of tree...

{Mary & William arrived in New Plymouth, New Zealand on the "William Bryant" 30 Mar 1841}

William EDGECOMBE born 1810 England, died 7 Jun 1871 New Plymouth, NZ
married Mary HEWLETT born 1802 Portsmouth, England, died 1890 New Plymouth NZ
... lots of descendants etc.
Mary HEWLETT also married John BROWN and this is my mother-in-law's line.
John and Mary BROWN had a daughter Mary Jane BROWN and she married Samuel Gregory HARRIS (also of Plymouth, Devon, England) etc....

This link may be of interest, SCOWN ancestry... as there may be some names you are researching in there.

And my MIL recently purchased a book (haven't got the title on me) that has history of New Zealand relating to the MOYLE descendants.

The family that are the Earls of Mt Edgcumbe spell their name Edgcumbe, not Edgecumbe.   The Earl and the fellow who started the newspaper were cousins.  See my Edgcumbe Family Tree on ancestry.com     Regards Barbara Martha Edgcumbe Stott
