My mother is Daphne Elizabeth Johnston (nee Edgecumbe). Her father (my grand father) was Henry Hume Edgecumbe (born1881) from NZ. His father was George Edgecumbe propieter of Waikata Times Newspaper. Do you know the relationship with present day Earl Robert Charles Edgecumbe? I have two photographs of family 1893? & 1906. kaye Johnston

Hi   I have been researching the family for the last 10 years, the bloodline from Greorge who strated the Waikata times can at present only be traced to Ralph corn c1570, in St Mellion in Cornwall, there is no link at present to the the Earl of Edgecumbe. The name Edgecumbe is prolific in and around Cornwall.

EXTRA INFORMATION ABOUT THE FAMILY

We are searching for the ancestors/descendents of George EDGECUMBE born 1845 wiltshire married to Annie HUMME.

he moved to NZ with his father Henry born 1817 in Wiltshire, and a few of his younger brothers. One of these i believe to be Francis Henry EDGECUMBE.

Henry EDGECUMBE was born in 1817 married Martha EYLES in 1842. she was born in Melksham, Wiltshire in 1823.

George EDGECUMBE (his son) co-founded the Waikato Times in the early 1880's with another EDGECUMBE who is probably related to the current Earl. (edward Mortimer EDGECUMBE)

We think we have the direct line back to about 1600 but a few of these we are not %100 sure of.

George EDGECUMBE'S son was John Harold EDGECUMBE.

I would really appreciated any information you might have regarding this family, especially where you fit into it.

;)Hi Mark  Sorry for delay in reply have been visiting UK for a few days. Have traced the family back to Mid 1500's including your ancestors, funny that those that went to New Zealand they kept the the 'U' in the name those that stayed slowly dropped the 'U' and put in the 'O' not all but most. If you are interested let me know, I would love to add the New Zealand linage to the tree. Can exchange e-mail addresses at a later date if we are quick, and both on line at the same time.
All the best
Alan

For Kayeci:

I am developing the family tree and notice on Ancestry you show a child for Henry Hume Edgecombe, can you give me any further details ie wife name all children, where he lived and died etc. I have a lot of information, and go back a long way. I  have received a lot of help from Mark in Hove about the New Zealand branch I am still missing details of those that crossed the water to Australia.

My name is David Edgecumbe, one of the four children of John and Sheena Edgecumbe.

I'm researching our family history, particularly interested in our Moravian roots

Have you any information on this?

Many thanks

David Edgecumbe

:D  Hi David

Had dinner with you brother earlier in the year in Brighton. Have a little about the Moravians, interesting group, but not sure how much you know already. Mark showed me a lot of things I did not have, although this was more the New Zealand line. You never know you may be better informed than me.
It is only recently that I started to follow the Edgecumbe's, as well as the Edgecombe's, but what ever, ask questions, I can either answer or not as the case may be.
