Hi Hunny,

My 3g grandfather was Charles Martin born about 1805 - is Charles a son of your James Martin and Mary Waters ?

regards

I've just answered my own question by checking Andrew Martin's tree.
It appears from Andrews' tree Charles is not the son of James and Mary.

Hi Mark...Oh well, it was worth a try. As Martin is such a common name we can't all expect to be related can we?

Good luck with your search.

Kind regards

Hi everyone,

Just thought I'd say hello, and to ask if any of you have any know connections to the Martin family from Ashen. I am trying to find out where my branch originally came from, but as yet I havn't made it to the records office.

My GGG Grandfather was John Martin (!) born c 1803. I have no sibling info, and I would love to know more.

Regards

Jeff

Hi Jeff...I have a John Martin in my family tree born 1806 in Ely, Cambridgeshire. His family details are as follows:

James Martin 1784-1856
Mary Martin (nee Waters) 1785-1869
Mary Martin 1805
John Martin 1806
Ann Martin 1807
James Martin 1809
Elizabeth Martin 1811
James Martin 1814-1868
Martha Martin 1816
Robert Martin 1818
William Martin 1820
Jane Martin 1823
Charles Martin 1825-1900 (my great grandfather)
Thomas Martin 1828

Please note that the first James would have died in infancy or quite young and they would want a son to carry the father's name.

Hope this is of some use to you and you find a connection, if not, happy searching.

Kind regards
Hunnyb22

Hmm impossible to know unfortunately.

I believe his mother's surname was Mayes, as this (apparently) was his middle name.
I will keep looking!

Thanks

Jeff
