MARTIN Family
« on: Saturday 30 September 06 23:46 BST (UK) »
Charles Martin married Elizabeth Seamor in abt 1827. Their children were  Charles born abt 1832, Julius born abt 1834, Robert born abt 1837 and William born abt 1842. Elizabeth died in abt 1844. Charles remarried Phoebe. Julius Martin was my gg grandfather and emigrated to Australia in 1856.
How can I find out if Julius's brothers were married and if they had families?

You'll have to try and track then through census (assuming they did not emigrate too).

What towns/villages did these events take place in?

Well this is fantastic - taking me a while to take it all in.

So for a start - you've found 2 more elder brothers - Henry and Edward!

And a family for Henry and his wife Ann - 5 children. Henry's youngest brother William making the journey North to Gedney Drove End and living with them.

A marriage for Edward  to Alice and a son.

a few questions - How long did the Census records continue?
                          - How can we verify records like Edward and Alice and son       John?

Thank you for going to the trouble of giving me this information - it seems with all these Martins we may have some other Martin rellies after all.

Mark

Hi,

At present the census to date goes to 1901, you can search the 1881 census free on
http://www.familysearch.org/ you could also look for births/marriages/deaths there, but info needs to be verifyied as it is not always accurate by people who have submitted info.

To verify you can check http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/ this will give you BMD info but some coverage is not complete yet.

For marriages click on page number, and it will give you a list of poss spouses.  It will also give you the reference number to order the certificate from http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/home.asp if you want/ need it to verify parents/father etc. (This hobby can be expensive)

If you want to try trace the brothers in other census I would put up a request for each individually, with as much detail as poss. It can be confusing looking for a lot of separate peeps in same census years.

Hope this helps

Thanks for that - have started checking 1881 census and the info is there!
Seems I can start teasing out this tree.

Have been at this family tree thing for years now - from the Australian end with moderate success - yet to connect with any living Martin rellies but feel it is only a matter of tome - just realised that typo  but it sort of fits - the file is already several inches thick!

Thanks again Cas

Hi Mark,

Just checked GenesReunited.co.uk and there seems to be a person call Patrica who has some of the Martin brothers in her tree.

I think you will have to join to see her tree and send a message.  I searched under 'Martin' born Thetford.

Could not remember all birth dates but Charles, Henry, Robert Julius and William are there. born 1820-40's

Worth checking

Good luck

Cas
