Death at 76 Eridge Road ~ Croydon?
« on: Friday 29 September 06 16:54 BST (UK) »
I have 2 death certs for 1927 & 1938 given the address as 76 Eridge Road, although the deceased  lived elsewhere in Croydon.

In the current A-Z Eridge Rd is not listed in Croydon.
Does anyone know where this road was?
Or maybe know if it was some kind of
hospital maybe.

Thanks for any help

Sue

On the historical directories http://www.historicaldirectories.org/ website. Eridge Road is appearing on a Kelly's directory of 1913 as being in Thornton Heath part of Croydon.

Hope this helps

Ahhhh I've just googled it and found that the road that is now Meadow View Road used to be called Eridge Road till about 1939.

http://www.streetmap.co.uk and enter Meadow View Road.

I think the Mayday Hospital is the answer you need  ;D

It appears to have been an infirmary for the Croydon Union Workhouse until c1930

Hi,
I was doing a search on  "76 Eridge Road" - re I just received my Grandfathers Birth Certificate and
76 Eridge Road he was born at and lived at  1913.... I was a little shocked when my search actually
can up with something.   I'm unsure when they no longer lived at this address, there name was
"MEDLOCK".     What did your search come up with ??
My grandfathers birth certificate  said  76 Eridge Road , Thornton Heath.

?? Deaths ??

Looking forward to your response/
Duckie ??? :o

Hi Duckie

Eridge Road used to run along side of the
Croydon Union Infirmary, now named
Mayday Hospital.

Hi Sue.  I have just been trying to find any links to Eridge Road Croydon and saw your entry regarding No. 76 Eridge Road.  I have a photograph of my Mother and Grandmother at the gate of their home (where I was born) and on the back it says:-

1931   86 Woodcroft Road,  Formerley 31 Eridge Road Thornton Heath.

Woodcroft Road runs adjacent to the old entrance of Mayday Hospital (by the Chapel of Rest).  I have been trying to find out why the Eridge Road name changed to Woodcroft Road, but have been unsuccessful thus far.

I hope that this helps you.
Regards, Ron
