Help with Writing
« on: Thursday 28 September 06 20:28 BST (UK) »
I have a Scottish Marriage register copy of my G/G Grandparents but can hardly read the text on it.

If anybody could read this handwriting it would be a great help as I am stumped.  ???

It is the top marriage on the page between John Tucker & Catherine McManus.

Can't make out the exact date but January 1884 (before the 5th when it was registered!)

St Mary's (?) Chapel Dundeed after publication according to the forms of the Roman Catholic Church

Can't make out John's occupation but he was a bachelor.
Not very clear(but given it was Dundee) think Catherine's occupation was a jute spinner. Spinister
Can't make out the addresses.
Think that John's parents are John(General something for occupation) and Bridget Gallacher(can def read Gall in the Maiden name but not sure of the end).
Think that Catherine's parents are William and Mary Cullen.
Witnesses look like Owen Yettin(not sure about the surname) and Mary McManus. Can't really make out the priest's name.

I would say 'first' of January (same as the next one) and John's occupation could be Ship Rivetter.

If you used Scotland's People online to download the entry, you can use the contact form on the site to ask for a clearer image. They are pretty good at responding.
