Paisley is not the gourmet centre of the world is it

;) Paisley is a lot of things but it is definitely no gourmet centre - there's not even a decent cafe about

Hum, Hum  :(

Well, as list maker, will I put you down as a 'not interested' or 'maybe' or 'will attend if doesn't have to do anything'?

I think Paisley's out. It does have the advantage of having good public transport for a quick exit - Mr and Mrs Julian will just have to leave the kids there and get a train to Glasgow/Edinburgh/Stirling/Inverness.

I don't recommend the Highlands at the moment. It's very cold and we are having snow/hail squalls.

It's not that I am not interested it's more a matter of "I've been left holding that particular  baby before" .  :D

I would certainly try to assist if it was within my power to do so but I think you have to have the matter clearly sorted with a definite itinerary for the day - although I am sure that will clarify itself once you have a definite destination. (and hopefully a dry day  ;D )

Thank you, Falkyrn - I'll put you on the list  :)  (memo to self - he's not too good with babies)

We're trying not to clash with the Dublin meet so I'm waiting for news on that front.

And as for a 'dry day'  ::) ::) ::) ::)

Could those who are interested put up here any particular things that they would really like to find out more about or any ideas, please  :)

PS One of the places that I would really love to visit  is New Lanark - Robert Owens model village, fairly easily accessible from Edinburgh and Glasgow - see

Shame on me for not going there yet :-[

That might be quite a good idea Gadget.  I haven't visited New Lanark either and am sure there would be some  kind of hostelry nearby.  I think that might interest both folk from home and abroad

That sounds really interesting Gadget.  I don't have any relatives in Scotland (at the moment) so have no particular interests, apart from meeting you lot and I love Scotland and any excuse to visit.  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D   But I would find it interesting to look at such things as any interesting centres on highland clearances and crofting?

I'm with kerry re. the crofting suggestion - are there any folk museums or open air museums in the vicinity?

Gadget, let me know if I can do anything to help.  I feel sort of like a spare wheel, stuck all the way over here, and planning to just fly in and enjoy the spoils of your toils!

I'll check up on these, Prue  :)

There are so many interesting things in this fair land. I was hoping to line up someone like Jim Hunter (several books on The Clearances) if we held the meet in Inverness.

I gather that the Dublin meet looks like JUne at the mo, so it could well be that we're thinking Aug/Sept/Oct.

And don't feel guilty - you're a working lass and still manage to give so much help (and share a laugh) on (and off) these boards  :-* :-* :-*

Tell you what, you can buy me a dram  :D

Ach now that means the Belfast Meet had better not clash with the Scotland Meet :D
Would "Other Scotland" mean one of the lovely offshore islands by any chance ???
