If my OH comes she will tell you all about bed recesses from personal experience.  They are not that long in the past.

The peoples palace has (or had the last time I was in) a one room dwelling set up with the bed recess etc .... if i remember correctly it was for a family of 12.

others for the list

Pollok House
The tenement house at 145 Bucleuch Street as mentioned earlier.
Open top bus tour of the city
Hutchesons halls
City Chambers buildings

and if you wanted to venture slightly further afield you have
the Summerlee industrial museum in Coatbridge
new lanark mills and village

Think we're homing in on Glasgow  :) :) :) :)

I think it might be worth considering a 2 level meet - a short 1-2 dayer for those who can't spend more time and a longer 3-4 day visit taking in the wider area - e.g. New Lanark and the Clyde coastline - Arran, etc.

We're waiting on Pam's dates ,meles  :)

But looks like Aug - Oct 2007 or if we go on discussing, we could make it Spring 2008  ;)

We also visited a preserved tenament. It was brilliant! Please add it to the list for Pels' and my sake. meles

Meles, I trailed my poor mum to see this in the summer...she needed oxygen by the time she climbed the braes to it  :) but she agreed that it was well worth it  ;D

Joe, my mum lives in Linwood which I believe is not too far away from Kilbarchan...I didn't know it had been a weaving village and will have to pay a visit next time I visit her  :) The cottage in Paisley is pretty good as well  :)

I would love to walk in the footsteps of my father down along Hope Street /Argyll Street/ Sauchiehall Street/and Vincent Street or even go "doon the watter" as he once did. So one never knows it could well be this year coming that I do it (mind, I have been saying this for years and still have not been able to go back to Gods own country).
