Gadget -

Forgot to add in my previous post that whenever you schedule the meet just make sure you schedule far enough in advance to allow enough time for the attendees to purchase inexpensive airline tickets ... if needed.

Glasgow sounds good to me as does the autumn, wonder Ms Pels thinks, we can get train quite easy to Glasgow, only have to change at Edinburgh ;D

Me again - Jane unless things have improved considerably, from experience this isn't as straightforward as it sounds!!  ::) ::)

Could someone please adjust the subject line of this thread periodically, so that it shows the likely location and date?  Otherwise, one must wade through 14 pages (and counting) to get some clues.

I take it Kintyre is out of the running!  I don't know what's there except some of my ancestors' remains!  I want to take a look someday, as I have the names and locations of the farms they were born on (farms are still on current OS), early 1800s, but I've never heard anything interesting about the place.  Public transportation seems dismal, shall need to rent a car no doubt - from Glasgow.  But I can only come May through August normally, as my navigator/husband is only available then, at best, and not always.

Hi Loo

It wasn't decided when the thread was put up and this was the preliminary thread to discuss locations, etc. Hence the poll.

As you can see on the poll at the top of the thread, Glasgow is ahead and it seems that by popular acclaim, that the meet will take place there Sept/October this year.

I'm not sure where you found Kyntyre mentioned. I don't think we considered it. A beautiful place for a holiday, mind.

Regards

Hi all

I'm going home in mid Feb so could visit Glasgow (10 mins on train from Paisley) and suss out. Do we want city centre hotel ?

If peeps flying in to stay - to be aware airport is 8 miles outside Glasgow itself. You have to get train in from Paisley.

Let me know and I'll go on a search. people's palce a good place to visit. enbcapsulates Glasgow in one place and they do have nice tea room in Glasshouse!

Thanks Ann  ;D

I think Glasgow Central/ the Bus sstation and the airport are the routes in - car is fine but parking costs are a bit much!

I think I'll just stay at the Peoples Palace all day and the rest of you can go walkies  ;D ;D ;D

Yes you are right Ann
the airport is out of Glasgow centre. The train station is about 10 minutes from the airport then about another 15 mins from town centre.

Hotels ... the Ibis is cheap and cheerful (cr*p breakfast!! and no hairdryers so I have told our travel bookers NOT to put me in there again  :( ), the Novatel is good and I have stayed at the Thistle near Saughihall Street  that was also very good.

Not sure what to do do about booking hotels .... I may wing it a bit once we know the date and do 'laterooms' for a bargain apartment

As it is now clear that we will be meeting in GLASGOW  sometime in the Autumn of 2007 (Sept/October), Julian and I have decided that it is best to  lock this thread to avoid duplication.

Any other suggestions can be made on the new thread which is concerned with planning the event and any helpers, please:

Thanks everyone so far for ideas, support and humour  :)
