Christchurch, Holdenhust, Alderholt, HARRIS/COLBOURNE

Seeking info on marriage and birth dates/ancestors of James Harris and Caroline Colbourne who lived in Holdenhurst, Hampshire.  On the Census he gave his place of birth as Christchurch c.1826-31, she gave hers as Alderholt/Fordingbridge c.1827. They had the following children: Martha Maria, Margaret Lavinia, Esther, and perhaps a Caroline...they also had a youth Jesse Harris living with them, who could  have been a son.  They were also raising a grandson named Frank Fred Harris.

  Hi Cduc..... because your going with the Christchurch and Fordingbridge info i presumed you hadnt followed up the other census's. Couldnt find a marriage but then on finding the spelling of Carolines name in the 41 census will try again in a minute. Anyway James seems to change his age between census's and birth places for them both change as well. Could'nt find a daughter Caroline.Not sure how much of this you have so will post anyway....

 In the 41 James Harris age 20 is not living with his parents but living in the house of John and Mary Burt and their children in White Hall Christchurch H0 107/397/3. So maybe someone with the  Christchurch parish records can help you with the parents names.

This is interesting!

Caroline Colbourn baptised 26 Feb 1826 in Damerham, which at that point (according to a book I have) was in Wiltshire!  It is not far from Fordingbridge and Alderholt (check it out streetmap or multimap).  Parents were John and Martha.

Siblings:

Maria bapt 8 Sep 1822
Willliam bapt 29 Feb 1824
Eliza bapt 28 Sep 1828
Louisa bapt 4 Sep 1831
John Thomas bapt 22 Oct 1837
Jessie bapt 23 Aug 1840

James is much harder because he is so inconsistent with his age!

I have found these baptisms:

James bapt 15 Oct 1820 Christchurch, parents Robert & Sarah
James bapt 21 Jun 1824 Bransgore (chapelry of Christchurch at this date) parents Anthony & Elizabeth
James bapt 9 Nov 1832 Fordingbridge parents James & Fanny ( but this would not fit the possible James in 1841 in Christchurch  )

There are many other possibles, but not fitting the rough area where he says he was born.  Until you have his father's name - from the marriage certificate - he's going to be difficult to pin down.
