Imperial Yeomanry
« on: Tuesday 26 September 06 09:02 BST (UK) »
My grandfather enlisted into the 80th Company, 21st (Sharpshooters) Battalion the Imperial Yeomanry and was deployed to South Africa arriving there on 14 Mar 1901 and returned home on 10 May 1902. Whilst I know a little bit about the Imperial Yeomanry I have not found anything significant about the 21st Battalion in general and the 80th Company in particular. If anyone can recommend sources of information or indeed has and information on their deployment during the Boer War I would be most grateful.

What's your grandfather's name?
There are people on this board who have the medal rolls for the Imperial Yeomanry, and should be able to tell you something about the 21st Battalion as well.

Sirus,

He's listed in the section on the Imperial Yeomanry on Kevin Asplin's site:

Brown, James    22190, Trooper    80th Coy., 21st Bn. I.Y.

Although the full medal roll would tell you a bit more.

Hi Sirus

I have a copy of Kevin's book which details his transcript of the IY Medal Rolls.  I'm in the USA until Sunday, but will check which medals your relative was entitled to on my return.

Yours
Paul
