Gloucestershire Pesthouse
« on: Monday 25 September 06 13:27 BST (UK) »
Hi
I have recently found ancestors living at Water Lane in the hamlet of Bisley in 1891, this was a pest house. Does anyone have any info on this particular pest house? Also, would I be able to find out which family member had a disease and what the disease was?
Thanks in advance

Have you seen this?

"In 1896 a plan of the Stroud joint hospital board to house smallpox cases in the old parish pest-house at Oakridge angered local people who attacked and fired the building; the plan was abandoned and instead the board built an isolation hospital at the Wittantree near the Stancombe cross-roads. (fn. 18)"

Thanks for the info, its great. So it seems someone had smallpox, many died of this didnt they. The only family member that was in the pesthouse and missing from the family home in 1901 wouldve been 17 but thats old enough to marry isnt it. Maybe no-one died thankfully. Sorry im talking aloud, it makes it easier to concentrate lol.
thanks again for then info  :D
