Ellis Hare DAWSON 1841 please
« on: Saturday 23 September 06 23:49 BST (UK) »
Hi

I am trying to locate Ellis Hare Dawson in Bedfordshire in 1841 (perhaps Renhold). He comes from a family that can be found in the Renhold Parish records and he married Mary Richardson who was born in Renhold.

My information from the family is that Ellis & Mary emigrated to Australia from London on S.S. EQUESTRIAN arriving in Sydney on 16/07/1848.

The only information in the IGI is LDS submitted.

If anyone can find him in 1841 it would be a great help

Cheers Rob

Hi Rob

I think we'll need a bit more info than that, but here's what I've found so far.

I can see only five chaps called Ellis Dawson in the 1841 census of England and Wales.
Four were from Lancashire, one from Yorkshire.
Only three were old enough to have a wife by 1848.
None of them had a wife called Mary in 1841.

Dave

You should at least be able to verify his marriage and his father's name by getting a copy of the certificate.

Marriage Registration:
Ellis Hare DAWSON
June quarter 1841, Bedford vol 6 page 63
Matching reference - Mary RICHARDSON

Hi Dave,

Thanks for that Ellis and Mary must be newlyweds, as I had found the marriage reference, I just wanted to see if they were together in the 1841 census (taken around 7th June I believe). (Rather than waiting for the arrival of the cert). The LDS submitted record has them married in Renhold on 23rd  May, so we'll see what the actual certificate say's!

Thanks once more.

Cheers Rob

Rob,

re marriage certs after 1837 - if it took place in Beds & you know the parish & a rough date, you can view the marriage cert (from the church register) on microfiche at the BedsCC Archives at county hall.  Saves the £7 and the wait - & you can print it for 25p if you want.

Hi John,

Thanks for that, I can see that's going to save me a few bob, especially for those on the edge of my tree.

While were on the subject of Beds archives do you know if they also have relatively modern burial records? The family say my Gran was buried at All Saints, Renhold in 1956, but there is no marked grave for her. Do you think the archive might hold this information?

Cheers Rob

Rob,

There are burial records per parish from 1812 onwards - but I've never looked for anything so recent.     But saying that I have found a marriage at Goldington in 1940 - so who knows.
