Isaac ARNOLD of Wolverton
« on: Friday 22 September 06 21:02 BST (UK) »
I am seeking information regrading the parents of Isaac ARNOLD born circa 1758 in Wolverton, died 22 May 1844.  He was the father of John ARNOLD (25 Mar 1797 to 29 Jan 1880).

Hi, I have a John Arnold (1797 - 1880) with a father John (died 1840) and a son Isaac Arnold (1821 -1876). Interesting? This Isaac is my gt gt gt grandfather. I have a lot of information on the Arnolds from the Wolverton, Stony Stradford area. I have a very details hand written family tree going back to the 1700's in Old Wolverton. I actaully visited some of the old houses there last summer.

Please let's compare notes.

Val,

Yes, it would be good to compare notes.  If we're related, then from the family tree I have, you will be descended from Isaac Arnold who married Sarah ? and had at least 3 children, Jane (circa 1846?), Frederick (circa 1849?), and Charlotte (circa 1851?).  Isaac was the son of John Arnold (1797 - 1880) and Charlotte Delafield (1796? -1850) and had at least 7 siblings (William, Jane, Thomas, Mary, Sarah, Ann and John).  After Charlotte died in 1850, John Arnold remarried a widow Sarah Johnson, and they had 3 children together, Francis (1855), Sydney (1857) and Emily (1860).  Sydney is my gt grandfather and therefore John Arnold (1797 - 1880) is my gt gt grandfather and your gt gt gt gt grandfather.

I know that John Arnold lived in Slated Row in Old Wolverton and is buried in Holy Trinity there.  For some reason I have it that John's father was called Isaac as well.  I'll re-check this.  I also have further details of John's siblings.

Many thanks,

Chris A

Hi Chris,
Yes, I have a handwritten family tree with Sydney and six children. Which one are you decended from?

We took a picture of Slated Row last May when we were over. Didn't get a chance to get to a cemetery and didn't know which one to go to.

Yes, I am decended from Issac's daughter Jane who married the German, Hermann Janzen in Woolwich. Their daughter was Katherine Sarah, my great grandmother who I knew well (she died when I was 12). Katherine married Charles Henry BALL and they emmigrated to Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada with their two children in 1910.

My father, who is 78 now, is Francis Arnold BALL.

I'm very anxious to compare more notes. Please contact me at wesjames@telus.net.

The records for Wolverton are patchy and poorly transcribed. I checked from 1750 to 1774 and could not see a baptism for Isaac Arnold I'm afraid.

Jo,

That is interesting.  It looks like Isaac must have moved to Wolverton.  I guess for the railway work?  Any ideas how I could find where he was born?

I can check on the FHS database. Though it is not fully transcribed by any means, you mey get lucky.

I went today and there was nothing on the FHS database. However I did notice that there are two churches in Wolverton and what was St Marys is now down as Stony Stratford too. So three and I only checked one. But I was running out of time so will check when I go again on Wednesday.

The church I checked before was Holy Trinity. St George's only starts 1844 and St Marys only starts 1864. So no good I'm afraid.
