FreeREG - is it up and running yet?
« Reply #9 on: Sunday 21 August 05 19:08 BST (UK) »
Unless I'm following the wrong link http://freereg.rootsweb.com/ there appears to be no activity on the FreeREG site yet.  Does anyone know what the status of the project is?

There have been several posts regarding this subject.

News regarding the project can be viewed at http://freeukgen.rootsweb.com/

The very latest news I have (not on site) is that initial tests are due just after Xmas, all being well the planned general release will be as scheduled i.e. before April 2005.

You can use "Search RootsChat", and "advanced options" to search in the "Common Room" for freeREG. There are several posts, but all saying roughly the same as the above.

Hi there,

As far as I know, the Scottish part of FreeREG is still in its infancy - not sure about the English parts.  I am a volunteer transcriber for it and only received my films a few weeks ago, so I think it will be a while before us transcribers get through all the records and have them online, as I am guessing it will be like FreeCen, where all transcriptions will be checked by another person.

I guess the best way to hurry it up is to volunteer to be involved  :)

Cheers,

Hi

I sent an email back in April to volenteer to transcribe for FreeReg.

Still waiting a reply!

I think the project must be a dead duck.
