I have just read elsewhere that there were teething problems last week. However, I quote:

... I am hopeful that we can start the
process of releasing it today.

The initial phased deployment consists of only a very basic search, which will be enhanced over the coming months to incorporate more features, to bring it up the the level of features that people have already come to expect from our search engines!
[/list]

The italics are mine - remember they are releasing it slowly over a couple of weeks to blocks of IP addresses, and it looks like we shouldn't expect too much of it at first.

Cheers
K.

Update: It is now live. If you click through to try to search, it will tell you how long you have to wait before you have access. I only have 20 hours to wait - other people have up to 82 days!

By the type of day I've already had, I should have known not to look - I get access in, you guessed it, 82 days!!!  >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

That's what I get for living on the "wrong" side of the world, I spose  ;)

Kez :)

ETA: Actually, I'm incredibly grateful that this site is going to be up and running at all. The amount of work that has gone into it must be phenomenal and I hope one day to joins the ranks of transcribers as a way of showing appreciation. For those of us who do not live in the UK, you can imagine how exciting it is that we will soon be able to just turn on our computers to access ancient records on the other side of the world!!  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Oh Kez! I do think Australia is on the end of the list. Someone else in Oz has got 82 days too, but the following was posted:

In 82 days, there will be more to see :-)

However, we will be monitoring usage in the early days, and hopefully shortening the rollout process.

So, there is hope that it won't take that long.  ;)
