It would be good if they said up front which parishes in which counties are available to search, then at least if the parish your hoping for isn't there you can leave the search engine clear for the lucky ones!!

Click on the link "counties and parishes"
you get a list of county links, which takes you to a table of parishes, complete with coverage.
This is meant mainly for people thinking of transcribing, but it makes a good guide for "users" as well.

Most parishes are "in progress" but click on Somerset to see an example of what's available.

Also useful:  The place/town names are links to a GENUKI page on that place/town  :) :)

I am thankful that the family history society which covers many of the places that my ancestors lived - Clwyd FHS - had the forsight to transcribe the records many years ago - all done by dedicated volunteers. They sell them in booklet and fiche form at a very reasonable price and are wonderful.

Also pretty lucky with MIs for my area in Scotland.

You are lucky Gadget, some of my counties the FHS sell the bigger towns that have been transcribed for years but all my family were country bumpkins from the sticks, not transcribed yet!!!

But mine were also rural - you look at the map. I think it's more to do with the strength and will of the local FHS and local transcribers.

Transcribing is not all that enjoyable is it? My eyes go bananas but you feel that you're putting something back so .......................

You must be right, it is obviously down to the local FHS and I guess how many transcribers they have.  I imagine too that the transcribers would pick an area that they have an interest in.  Perhaps I shoudl volunteer and take an area I need doing.

Oh if only I had more time ::) ::) ::) ::)
