By the way, I have followed the Caulcutt (witnesses on the Pease/Todd marriage) connection, and David's father was a soldier like Thomas Green, which would explain them being "intermittent" in the censuses.  Thomas Green seems to have been born in Kingswinford, and is in Tettenhall in 1861 with his wife and younger children (including Mary Jane).
