I thought I should contribute to this group's discussion, and particularly respond to the posts of rosieb14 and rachelharvey, as my father was Peter Hammett Greey, one of the 2 sons of Frederick Leonard Greey, who was in turn the youngest of the 4 sons of Edward Charles Greey, as mentioned by rachelharvey. My thanks to Rachel, as I now understand why my father's middle name was Hammett, that apparently being the family name of his paternal grandmother.
However I do not have any information about Grey's department store. From family discussions many years ago, I understood that my grandfather, Frederick, fell out with his 3 older brothers at some stage and was from then on (??), not involved with the department store. As a child I recall a brief meeting with Fred's oldest brother, Albert, who, I think, was a bachelor but that was it. I understand that Horace, another of the brothers, had a son, Derek, who in turn had a son, Edward, who lived in Barnt Green but I don't think I ever met them. Hope that may be of interest to some of you.
