Hello Christopher,
I have found out a bit more on Philip and Mary Ann McDaid. I was in Ireland for 3 weeks this summer doing some research and I have a copy of their marriage certificate. They both lived in the city, Philip in Middle Road (now Francis Street) and Mary Ann in Bridge Street.
They married in St. Eugene's Cathedral on 9th February 1877 and Philip is described as a stonecutter on the certificate. His father was Daniel McDaid (dead) Rank, Nailer, and her father was John McDaid, Labourer.
I have also found a Daniel McDaid and a John McDaid in St Columb's Wells (Priest's Lane intersect) in the Griffith's Valuation (Valuation of Tenements), this is where my mother had told me the families had stayed. Unfortunately, I do not see anyway of establishing the exact year the Griffith's Valuations were carried out for each area.
This is all the information I have to date on this branch of the family and wonder if you, or anyone else has any information on when the Derry Family History Society will re-open?
Many thanks and kind regards,
Anne
