Hi BF,

Many thanks for checking the 1911 census for me.  I do not know when either of them died so it could cost a small fortune to find the relevant information.

Don't get me wrong, I don't mind spending money, and I am sure I must be a share holder with Scotland's People!  I do, however, wish that the relevant authorities in Ireland would take control of what are "public records" and make them available to the public.

Sorry, rant over.  I think I may book a day at the GRONI.  It won't be cheap but at least I'll get a holiday at the same time  8)

Thanks again,

Anne

Hi Mary,

Thanks for that.  I know that there were Doherty's in the family and that my grandfather had lots of Doherty "cousins".  According to Philip's marriage certificate of 1877 he was "full age" so that puts him mid 1850s or before.

As an aside, did Ireland record the deaths of WW1 soldiers?  I know that Scotland did and can issue death certificates for military personnel.

Once again, many thanks to you all, I feel the brick wall coming apart brick by brick.
