Hi joekar,

Many thanks for the reply.  Since posting this request I have found the following on this family,

David b 30 Nov 1864
Thomas Meldrum b 16 Aug 1866
Janet b 4 Mar 1868
John Cameron b 8 Sep 1872
Isabella Munro b 16 Dec 1874
Grace b 10 Jul 1877
Henry McKenzie b 10 May 1884

Also, I have found Janet (McKenzie) Fulton's death registration on 1st Jan 1929, informant her son, Henry.

Unfortunately, Henry got his Grannies mixed up and put his mother's mother as Isabella Munro (who was Thomas's mother)  He has listed his grandfather (Janet's father) as John McKenzie.  After making a mistake with the mother's name, I am not convinced that he got the Father's name correct either.  Does this make sense?  I am not blaming anyone here, the death of parent at anytime is very traumatic (I know, I've been there like many of us).  I did find a John McKenzie and a Janet McDougall who "fitted" the profile, but I am not totally convinced they are the "ones I am looking for".

The "Cameron" link is one that I will look into futher and I thank you for that.

Hi Ann Baker,

Many thanks for your reply.

This is certainly the family in the 1881 Census.  Although throughout most of his (traceable) life he was known as Thomas Fulton, in death, he is registered as Thomas Meldrum Fulton, as was his father.

I notice that you are also researching Liddell in the Falkirk area.  I am also looking for a William Liddell in the area on my husband's side of the family.  This William had a daughter in 1843 although I am unsure of the circumstances surrounding the birth.

Many thanks to you both for the information you have provided today.

Hi Anne

My Liddell is a Jane born around 1822. She married a Peter McGovern.

Her father was James and her mother Jane McIntyre.

I think she was born in Falkirk and I know her father was a soldier at one point. Having a lot of problems finding her!

I don't know yet if she has any siblings.

I also have Fultons but they are from Glasgow. My dad's grandma was a Fulton but not done a lot on her parents yet tho on census seems they moved about a bit!

I will . so if anything does turn up can let you know

Hi

Had a look at 1841

Don't know if this is right one but.....

They lived at Gemmells Land, Manse Lane, Greenock West

Household

Thomas Fulton aged 30
Isabella Fulton aged 25
David Fulton aged 4
Margaret Currie aged 30
lachlan Currie aged 30

All were born in Renfrewshire which is why not sure is right one for Thomas!

And of course census doesn't say where!

Will try 1851

Worth checking out with the watt library in Greenock

Hi Joe and Ann,

I saw both of your messages this morning but did not have time to answer, sorry, had to go out today.

Joe,  The details you have given for Thomas's birth are correct, except, his mother is Hannah.  She is only ever listed as Henrietta on his OPR Birth.  Hannah is the daughter of John Meldrum and Jean (Jane) Leitch, Leech, Leach or (Leith, which I think was a case of a missed "c" when the registration was done)  I can only, so far, find one brother, George, born in Leith South, 11th May 1766.  Hannah states that she was born in England on the 1851 Census.  No County recorded so may take some time to find her.

Only the eldest child, David, appears to have been born (baptized) in Kilfinan, which is Isabella's birthplace.

Hi Ann, I certainly would not rule out that entry in the 1841 Census.  The ages were rounded up or down to the nearest 5 years (as far as I know)  The actual ages of Thomas and Isabella were 35 and 27 respectively, who knows, maybe they were not as "into" birthdays and ages as we are now.  Young David is spot on at 4 years old as his birthday probably wasn't until August(ish) and the 1841 Census was taken on 6th June 1841.

Many members of this and the extended family were married or baptized in the Free Church of Scotland.  The only reference I can find on St Andrews Church, Greenock is this one http://www.inverclyde.gov.uk/Economic_Development/index.php?module=article&view=255
