Photo naming
« on: Wednesday 13 September 06 08:37 BST (UK) »
I would like to name my photo's before I burn them to DVD.

I want to write across the bottom of the photo.

How can I do this? I am using Win XP Home and MS Office 2003 which has Publisher in the package.

Thanks...Gem

I use PSP7 to handle my photos, and it is quite easy, just open the picture chose the font tool (an A on PSP on the taskbar) a box opens, you choose the font and write what you want and then save it, maybe with a slightly different name, and then you have one written and one not written, and then do whatever you want with it. You can also write on it in Word, but I never do.

With the software you have mentioned you would need to create a publication page for each photograph and add the title to this saving each onto the cd/dvd as a data file. Or you could use the publish as web facility to  create a pseudo photo album by the same procedure and transfer this as a data file.

Alternatively

1. Use a graphics program to add text to each image
2. Name the files in such a way that the title is fully descriptive of the file
3. Use a program such as irfanview and create a slideshow using descriptive file names

Irfanview is free from http://www.irfanview.com/download_sites.htm

I assume you have/will make a copy of the pictures before you deface them.

Hi,
It's possible to do this without going to the bother of opening each photo in a graphics program and manually editing it.
The free program ImageMagick has a text based interface that can allow you to name files individually or as a batch process.
The tutorial for naming is here:

The ImageMagick site is here:

Thank you everyone for your suggestions much appreciated.

Boggabarrett...I do not have Photo Shop Pro V7 but I have looked at on the Internet and there is a trial version to down load.

Falkyrn...oops I already have Infraview. I downloaded it ages ago when it was recommended on here. I have had another play with it and it will do what I want to do. Thanks for reminding me.

Xrchris...The originals will not be named only images.

Arnietheother...Haven't looked at the sites you have recommended but will do so now.

Once more many thanks everyone.

Happy Gem  :)

I am sure that it is a free download program so might be worth trying.
