Thank you for your reply,  but this information seems to relate to brickworks where I am looking for an actual building firm.  Again thank you Norma

It may be a bit early but there is one Ephraim H. Jones in 1901 census of Buckley. He's 19 yrs old/unmarried & living on the High Street, as his Dad, John Jones is a Grocer, Ephraim himself is down as a Coal Miner (hewer) which doesn't exactely tie in with him being a builder  >:(

However, according to FreeBmd a Ephraim Hopwood Jones was born Q1 1882 Flintshire & married Q4 1907 in Hawarden, on the same entry (11b-439) is an Annie Lamb.

Not saying this is the guy you're looking for but it's worth checking out. I can get you a screenshot of the census if you'd like  :)

PS: Might be worth asking about Ephraim on the BBC Buckley mini-site, it's a good site, gets plenty of use and has a few old pics/stories that are worth a look.

Happy hunting  :)

Thank you for replying,  Annie was my Great Aunt and I know she married an Ephraim Jones but what has confused me is the only marriage I can find states that Annie had the name Mildred and I have never heard or found the name Mildred in the family.  Do you have a copy of the marriage certificate with her father being Edmund John.  And yes I would love to know more about this family.  Regards Norma_Jess

Hi   Ephraim Jones married Mildred Annie Jones in 1907. Both were from large families which has led to a cast related family. They had two daughters, Dorethy and Phyllis marring Neville Williams and William Ellis Edwards respectively. Phyllis had a daughter named Norma who spent much of her childhood in Buckley with Ephraim and Annie. Ephraim died suddenly in 1946 at a family wedding Annie lived as a widow until her death in 1960, an event I remember well as a small great grandson. the family building business was carried on into the 70's by Dorethy and Neville until their retirement

Ephraim made his initial money by working in Canada in 1905, helping build the Toronto Post Office Tower. On his return he specialised in Kiln and chimney building, the last major job being an extention on the chimney at Tunnel Cement in Pen y ffordd in 1965ish.

I attach a picture of Annie mother and father, Edmund and Sarah Griffiths

Hope this helps  Paul
