Brains needed !!
« on: Saturday 09 September 06 12:43 BST (UK) »
Would really appreciate any help or advice please.

I am trying to find parents of Maria Taylor from Burton on Trent.
She married Benjamin Pegg at Burton on Trent Staffs Dec qtr 1886, and in 1891
are living in Repton (nearby village).Maria's age is given as 24 and in 1901 her age is given as 33 -both census's give her birthplace as Burton on Trent.
So presumably she was born c. 1866/1867.
I have searched all quarters from 1864/1870 but cannot find a birth registered
for Maria Taylor, nor can I find her on the 1871 Census.
However in 1881 she is shown as a 13 year old at the Burton on Trent workhouse.
I did find a Maria Taylor born in 1871 Burton on Trent and sent for that birth certificate even though the age was 3 years different - but she is shown at home with her parents in 1881.

In Repton in 1891 living next door to Maria and Benjamin Pegg are the Taylor
family -Charles and Emma plus their children, and I wonder if they are Maria's
parents? Charles age is given as 43 and his birthplace Repton, I cannot find him on the 1871 Census either, but he shown in 1881 with his wife and children. Is it likely that their eldest child only would be in the workhouse?

I have spent so many hours trying to find Maria before the age of 13, I think a fresh pair of eyes could make a difference.

Any help would be so much appreciated

What information does Maria give about her father on her marriage certificate?

Only had the "wrong " birth certificate yesterday so haven't sent for the marriage certificate yet, was hoping to trace without sending off for that, but
guess I'll have to.

Thanks for replying

Helly Sandyq,

I was having a look through the BMD on Ancestry to see if I could 'throw any light on' your problem, and it occurred to me - could her name have been -
MARY A Taylor ?  Said quickly, it would sound like Maria.   I found a Mary Taylor in the Sep quarter of 1867, born Burton (vol. 6b p. 318) .  Could this be your ancestor?

Best wishes
Sands
