From the 1911 English census Mary A is Mary Ann and she's from Wexford, born around 1858.

for reference 1881 so born circa 1858/9

due to her age she could'nt be long married so a possible marriage in England as there does not seem to be one registered in Ireland.
also 2 possible deaths for Patrick Jackman between 1868 and 1881

Thanks, dasai. The second of those deaths looks the best bet as if it was the first one he'd have had Ellen around the age of 70 which whilst not impossible I suppose, seems a bit unlikely!

I also realise now I'm not going to find a birth record for Mary Ann am I as births weren't registered before 1864.

Here are the Wexford Parish microfilms for marriages and births incase you do eventually find out what parish they were born in if right family.

Not sure if this is good news or bad news for you Mike.  I actually have that 1878 death certificate.  Mainly because of the appearance of the name Ellen Donohue which ties to my Jackman/Chapman line.

Details:  18 april 1878, Green Street, Wexford; Patrick Jackman, married, 50 years, carpenter, Pneumonia with Diarrhoea 6 days, certified, Ellen Donohoe present at death, Patrick Square.
However I also have this cert:
Details: 12 oct 1878, Newtown, Margaret Jackman, married, 57 years, carpenter's wife, Bronchitis 2 months, certified, Ellen Donohoe present at death, Allen Street, Wexford.

Were they husband and wife?  Well, Margaret is a similar age, but not noted as a widow.  The occupation is suggestive.  Her different address (of the dead people, not witness) might reflect a number of situations.  The same person registering the deaths does seem to tie them together though.  But her name is not Anne.
Chapman, Jackman, Roche, Whelan, Hanton, Dee, Stafford, Leary, McGrath, Murphy, White, Hayes, Shudall.

Thanks for the replies again. I guess it was too good to be true that I had not only names but a narrative to account for their movements. The 2 certificates do seem to clearly link Patrick and Margaret together although there could of course have been a Jackman family carpentry business..

I need to do a bit more work today than I did yesterday so I'll mull this over again later.

This is quite possibly a case of me simply wanting the Patrick who died 1878 to be mine but I've looked at Jackman births in Wexford leading up to 1878 in order to see whether any children were born to a Margaret & Patrick Jackman. The only Margaret Jackman I can find having children during the 1860s & '70s is one married to a Nicholas Jackman.

With any luck Ellen will have given her father's occupation for her marriage certificate.

The name Nicholas in the Jackman/Chapman families tended to be mainly in the Fethard lines.  (Still is, in fact).  In the mid 1800s there were lots of different lines of Jackmans/Chapmans in Co. Wexford.  Chapman and Jackman mainly across the south, Jackman mainly in the Enniscorthy area, Protestant Chapman in the Gorey area.  But pretty widespread overall.
Looking forward to details from the marriage cert.
Chapman, Jackman, Roche, Whelan, Hanton, Dee, Stafford, Leary, McGrath, Murphy, White, Hayes, Shudall.

So I've got the marriage certificate and the father of the bride is... Patrick Jackman (deceased), profession carpenter. It seems that Jackman Bros. Carpentry might not have been so fanciful a suggestion after all!

On your death certificate, Hatslip, do you know why there are two addresses given, Green Street and Patrick Square? And who is the Ellen Donohoe who links your certificates?
