1861 MOORE
« on: Thursday 07 September 06 02:29 BST (UK) »
I am looking for the 1861 census for a MOORE family living in St. Woollos (Newport), Monmouthshire.  In 1851 they were: James Moore, head, m, age 34, ship chandler ? , born  Bradworthy, Devon; Sarah Moore, wife, m. age 43, dressmaker, born Clovelly, Devon; Josiah M. Moore, son, age 10, born Clovelly; Thomas Moore, son, age 6, born Clovelly; Sarah W. Moore, dau., age 4, born Clovelly; James Moore, son, age 1, born Clovelly; Grace E. Moore, niece, single, age 19, born Sutcombe, Devon.  They were still there in 1871 so I expect they should be there somewhere. Many thanks,
Anne

Hello Anne
The family do not appear in the 1861 Gwent Fhs census index of Newport.
In that year over 4000 names out of a population of approximately 9000 in Newport are missing due to lost records.

Thanks very much for that information - I guess that explains it ... unfortunately.
