Maria QUINN circa 1861 father Timothy
« on: Tuesday 05 September 06 11:00 BST (UK) »
I`m posted what little information I have on the QUINN family. Maria was my gt gran and born circa 1861, information from the 1881 census and her death gives me this date.
I know her father was Timothy a Horse Trainer. Maria had sisters Sarah and Bridget who came to Manchester with Maria. Sarah was born circa 1855 and married John KERR in Manchester 1875. Bridget married Martin KANE, in 1910, I don`t know when Bridget was born. There was a brother Timothy, who I believe was a witness to Sarah's wedding 1875 but who sometime later went to America. This is before the records for Ellis Island so I may never find him.

Timothy senior died I believe in 1874, I found a death and the details fit.
Death Certificate. Superintendent Registrar`s District Roscrea  Registrars District Shinrone, Death registered in the District of Shinrone in  the Union of Roscrea in the County of Kings.
No 7  23 rd January 1874 Brusna, Timothy Quinn, Male, Married, 50 Horse Trainer, Heart Disease Sudden, Information received from John Corcorran, Coroner for Kings County, 23rd January 1874, Henry Clements Nixon Registrar.

I`ve never found Maria in either the 1891 or 1901 census, which I`ve searched time and again. Even now the index`s are available, I can`t find her. When the 1901 census was taken my gran was only a couple of months old, born 4 Feb 1901 so I thought I could trace Maria through Sarah(My gran), but no luck. The KERRS are in all the census, but Bridget I can`t be sure, there a few to chose from and not enough information.

The only other thing I had, is that when Sarah married John KERR, she said her father was from Queens County. John`s father was also from Queens so this could be miss-information having been written down, or did Timothy move around with his work. I`m convinced I have the correct death certificate and he died in Kings.

Any advice or help would be gratefully received.

George.

Hello, George...
Have you found anything more on your Timothy...? Your query doesn't seem to focus on the subject Mary, as I don't see a date of birth for her...
but only found one Mary Quinn in 1871 and didn't seem to be yours

Keep an eye out for the completion of the 1852 census N.B and 1871 census of King's county at http://www.automatedgenealogy.com/

Is the Kings County in the post not in Ireland rather than New Brunswick Canada?

Thanks for the interest. I`m now hoping to look at the Rathdowney P.Rs for Maria`s baptism circa 1861. A distant cousin feels the family  came from here. I don`t know when I`ll get to Dublin to check this but it`s on my to-do list. Rathdowney is only about 10 miles from where Tim died and again only 10 miles or thereabouts from Templemore where I`d previously been looking.
