Macclesfield address

Could some kind person please advise whether the house at 6 Green Street, Macclesfield is still there. Occupied by ALLEN family for many years.

Hi Carley,
Green Street is certainly still there, although there are quite a few small industrial units along the street now.  I checked for a post code for no 6 on the Royal Mail website and one came up. so I guess it must be one of the houses that has survived - there seems to be no's 6 and 8 then no more numbers until 22.  They're small terraced houses on the edge of an area of Macclesfield that was cleared for flats several years ago.
The flats themselves were also demolished in the last few years and replaced with more houses!

Number 6 Green Street is still there as of 2005, occupants
 1 male 1 female different surnames (no Allen).

Hi Carley

            What a coincidence !! My dad was born at No 6 in 1913.
            When did your Allens live there ?
My fathers family only lived there a few years before moving a few hundred yards to Bank Street.

           Below is a section of a modern day arial photo of the area, I have put a RED pointer to No 6.

           The church is St Pauls and the blue pointer was St Pauls school ( now a block of flats)

Peter, THANK YOU so much!  I cannot believe the coincidence that your father was born at 6 Green Street in 1913!

The Allen family were there in 1881 Census showing Sarah Allen as a widow by then. She and her daughters migrated to Australia in 1887, and it seems Henry Allen, the only family member to remain in Macclesfield moved into 6 Green St afterwards, and was still there in 1901 with his wife and 3 sons.

Sarah Allen's husband was John Allen and he was a Baker by trade.  It is believed that he died in 1875. My husband's grandfather Joshua was the eldest of the family and he joined the British Navy and served for a number of years before migrating, he was in Australia before 1886 but I think he must have swum!

I am very grateful for the help received from everyone, and things like the photo you sent Peter, is so great. I wonder whether the Allen kids went to that school nearby. Joshua was born in 1856.

     My fathers family only lived there for a short time (c1911-1914) but when they moved they stayed within St Pauls parish and all attended the school there, as I did, I am sure Henry Allens children would have also.

    The http://www.cheshirebmd.org.uk/ shows that Joshuah and siblings were born in West Macclesfield (St Pauls being East Macc) the census 1861/1871 shows them living in the Roe St area which was in the St Micheals parish.

    They would probably have gone to St Micheals National School in Duke St Macclesfield.

    I do have a large number of Macclesfield photos, I will have a search through and if I find any of relevance to your Allen family I will be intouch.

hi peter im also trying to trace my allen family from macclefield.

the family im tracing are Siblings of Edward Allen  & Elizabeth Allen

mainly Ethel Allen  was born 15th july 1902 and Elizabeth Allen 1892

I cannot find any trace of them at all from birth right up until they were married.
 No Birth Certs
and no trace on census but the rest of the family are there.

Their address were..
16 union Yard
4 cotton street 1891
1881 3 Royles Terrace and 11 Royles terrace
I would love to see any pictures that you might have about these addresses.
Also I beleive my G.G.G Grandfather was Mayor of Macclesfield in Thomas Allen 1798-1799 and would love to find a picture of him.
I was in Macclesfield last week but had no joy.

Hi from Australia Kathy,
You have some names in your Allen family that also appear in ours, and I wonder whether there might be a connection along the line somewhere.  Our lot come from a line of John's (g.grandfather was a Baker)and my husband's grandfather was Joshua Allen who was born Macclesfield in 1856, and who came to Australia after 1881, and married  out here in 1886.  After his father John died in 1876 (?), his mother Sarah sailed to Australia with daughters  Mary aged 27, Clara aged 19 and Elizabeth aged 17 (known as Eliza). They came on the  "Abyssinia" in 1887 but I cannot find when Joshua arrived, but being a seaman, could have worked his passage and stayed.  He already had a brother John Allen living in Australia. 
Joshua named one of his daughters Ethel, a son William Edward.
Should you think their might be a connection, would love to hear from you.
