Hello there

Well he may  very well have been invalided out.

You  could try the white  pages on line.http://www.whitepages.com.au/wp/resSearch.do

this  is a  carter in tarragindi  not  the same street though

Electoral  Rolls  aren't on line

may be  we  might  find his fathers  Ralph?  death

what is  his  parents names  and  his a birth year.

you could also  get his service record  the the NAA

it  may  give  you more clues   it will at least tell you why  he  left the service so early.

You  could also try war graves commission  if  he has died  he would have been entitled  to a plaque from war graves  so  they may  have his  details  on file  I  got   my grandad  burial  place  this way.

just  mulling over suggestions

regards jenn

There is a Wilfred Henry Carter buried at Mt Gravatt 1965 aged 48.
http://www.brisbane.qld.gov.au/BCC:STANDARD::pc=PC_899 - almost the correct age?

The birth index for Wilfred would be available on microfiche - should give his mother's name. I think the Federal electrol Rolls are available at the archives in most Australian states - not online as far as I know.

Hi

Electoral rolls are available at State Libraries.  Prior to 1991 they were in indexed in areas and then alphabetically after 1991 they are indexed alphabetically.

Cheers

Hi Genni

The NAA in Brisbane are right behind the current location of the state library (family history section). They also have the electoral rolls - being very much less crowded than the state library I have been known to drop in there occasionally. It is also much easier to park there  ;D . The State library is moving back to rebuilt  home soon - rumour has it there will be even less space - ahhhhhhhhhhhh - I must ask someone!

Thanks you all so much,

I now need to find out why he might have dropped his father's name 'Ralph' and replaced it with Henry (Harry).  All indications would suggest that this did happen as the "Harry" connection was a starting point from some family documentation (Unless there were twins!!) How intriguing.

I shall have to plan a trip to Australia!

If this is the chap, might he be listed as a father in any Australian online archives which I might interrogate?  To find a living relative would be splendid!

Thanks Tropicalj

I wouldn't dare commit this info to my tree yet but it does give me an impetus to root around my own family archives armed with these 'teasers'.

I'm still relatively new to this but the site and all the people on it are great for ideas and help.

I will be cautious and thanks for your thoughts.  :) :)

Best regards,

Hi Ronin,
I will most likely be going to the Qld State Archives sometime next week. They have electoral rolls there also.
If you would like me to look up anything for you, let me know specifically what ie. dates, names etc.
I'm fairly new to family history too, but am happy to try some lookups for you.
