Many thanks to you all, this is excellent.

It is all coming together and the Tarragindi is obviously "Luragindi" with smudged ink.

Does anyone know how to find out if Bramstone street still exists as I guess the house name is "Katourala" or somesuch!

Thanks,

Ronin

Me again already!

Where would one find emigration records for this type of record (His father Ralph particularly) or local details of the town mentioned?

Thanks again.

Hi Ronin,
Tarragindi is a nice old leafy suburb in the southern suburbs of Brisbane.  There is a bit of a blurb on it here:
http://www.ourbrisbane.com/living/suburbs/tarragindi/history/
There is a link in the first para on that page to a local history project - might be worth contacting them about the house you're interested in.

Hi there,
I just looked up my Brisbane refedex (A to Z) and Bramston Street is still there. (Map 180 C 17) Sorry can't help with the house name though. In those days there were not usually house numbers, but they often had names. Even if the house still exists the name may no longer be there.  :(

If they immigrated through Brisbane  pre 1920, the state archives may have some information. There is an email address under "contact us" -  I think they will do minor checks for you. They don't seem to be in the online lists (only to 1884)

Hello again,

calling all experts...

As Wilfred was born on 31st December 1918, he may still be alive.  If he is, is there a national Directory in Australia (Like the Kelly's in the U.K. or the electoral role which I might investigate?).

Also, at the risk of sounding uninformed(!), why might his record show him being discharged from the army in 1941 at the tender age of only 33?  Surely he would have been needed around this time?

Lastly, he was last posted with "The Northern Command Signals" but the only reference on the Internet to this group is based in York in Britain during WWII.  Does anyone have any further suggestions?

Many thanks again,

Ronin
