Wilfred Harrid/Harold Carter
« on: Tuesday 29 August 06 10:25 BST (UK) »
Dear all,

I have a photograph of the man named above dated 1946.  His age is given as 47.  I believe he is related to a Ralph Harold Carter (who lived around Birmingham) in some way or a Robert Arthur Carter from Canada.

The photograph was taken in Australia and there are other documents suggesting that he lived there over this period and probably beyond.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to where to start looking for information?

Hi Ronin
What other documents? What are the dates specifically on them?
'Transcribed 'on what?

Lots of R. Chatters will be keen to help, but we really need more details Please.

Hi Ronin

Which State are we talking about?  Is there any background in the photo to help identify the place? If so, are you able to post on to the message board.

We can check electoral rolls etc but need an approximate location.

Thanks Sparrett,

I have a definite Robert Arthur Carter marrying a Ellen Lavinia Tudor (Aka Nellie Tudor).  They had two children, Treasel in 1885 (Toronto) and Ralph Harold Carter in 1887 (Birmingham).  This is all from other boards on here over the last couple of weeks.

I have traced Treasel's family to the present day and think that Ralph Harold (Aka William Ralph Carter I think) might have been killed in WW1 (Info via A2A) but this has yet to be confirmed.

Over the weekend I was informed of a number of photographs.  One in particular shows a "Wilfred Harrid (Could be Harold) Carter on a motorbike in 1946 saying he is 47 years old.  There are also two letters mentioning Carter marked Australian addresses.  I am getting further details tomorrow.

Thanks,

Ronin

Hello again,

this may muddy the waters!

The photograph dated Sept 1946 does not mention an age but does say "Wilfred Ralph(!) Carter at Brastone or Broustone or Bradstone Street in Aukland dated September 1946".

A further photograph says "Me at 16"(?) very blurred at ... New South Wales June 17th 1921

Other undated pictures mention Wilfred at 5 months.

This is everything so far....

Hi Ronin'
Auckland is in NEW ZEALAND
Iwould suggest that you immediately put a notice on the New Zealand board of RootsChat asking for help identifying the street name and asking for death [or other event] look up.

As this seems to be his last known place, you may be able to work back from there to Aust.
I do not immediately see any 'events' under that name in the bmd's for NEW SOUTH WALES.
Other contributeos might do better.

Thanks Sparrett,

I have been to New Zealand so my geography is not that bad!  :)

The Aukland is a transcribed typo (I will attend to that living relative later!)

The address iin question is

Katourala (?)
Branstone Street (Or Broustone or Braistone)
Luragindi (Or Lauagindi)
South Brisham
Queensland
Australia

(This is on the back of the Wilfred Ralph Carter - Sept 1946 Photograph

The New South Wales picture says

Taken at M anly(??) or auly?
New South Wales January 17th 1921

And it shows two people on a beach

If you have any further thoughts I would be very interested.

Thanks,

Ronin

Hi Ronin

There is a Bramston Street, Tarragindi.  This is a suburb in Brisbane's South.

Do you have the pictures?  Are you able to copy and paste them on the board.

The 1921 photo is more than likely Manly, Sydney.

Cheers
