McNair, McNear, McNeair, or Mac...
« on: Monday 28 August 06 11:08 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I am  trying to find any information about George McNair, who was born circa 1836. He arrived in Australia in the 1850's with his brother John.
They are 'presumed' to be from Lanark, Scotland.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
thanks

Hi there,

The IGI shows one birth for a George McNair for 1836 + or - 2 years, for Lanark:

Born 02 May 1835 and Christened on 05 Jun 1835 in Barony parish, Lanark.  Parents given are James McNair and Eleanor Stanser.  However, I cannot find a John born to these parents.

Looking farther afield than Lanark, there is a George McNair born in 1831 in Argyllshire, but again I can't find a John to match.

Do you have any ideas about their parents' names?

Cheers,
Clare
ELLIOT, CROZIER, HAY, AITCHISON, COWAN - Roxburghshire
BETT - Kinross-shire, Fife and Glasgow
CHAMBERS, BRUFF, WESTMACOTT - Glasgow
And many, many more...

Hi,
thanks everyone for the help, and the promptess.
I don't have any idea of he paents names, and I can't see any sort of naming patterns in George's children.
I don't know where to go from here, but will put all the information in my notes and see what else I can find
thanks again
