Grace/Robert Edgar Dumfries

Anyone else researching Robert Edgar and Grace Gibson from Dumfries? A group of us in Australia are researching this family, we are descendants of John Edgar b 1818 who went to South Australia in 1848.  We have found the family of Robt & Grace in 1841 in English Street, Dumfries, however, "our" John is missing from the family.  It is believed that Robert Edgar a shoemaker died in 1842 but Grace lived until 1875.  Grace appears in 1871 in Barnslap Workhouse but we are yet to find her in 1851 and 1861.  There is a Grace Edgar in the home of Wm Blount, but this is a different Grace.  "our" Grace is said to have been born Edinburgh and died aged 78 according to her death certificate info provided by son Robert.  Any information is appreciated regarding her whereabouts between 1851 & 1871  Graces parents were Robert Gibson and Sarah Reid (Raid or Rait).  Thanks

I have a James Edgar born in Canonbie in 1825 his parents were Jane/Jean Elliot & Charles Edgar.. Although Jane & Charles never married.. Jane & James moved to Newcasleton but Charles stayed in Canonbie and married and went on to have more children.
James became a very successful grocer and paid for a town statue, He married Elizabeth Jackson and had 11 children.
Its actually the Elliot family that im researching

Thank you for your reply.  Apart from Robert Edgar & Grace, I am also researching James Edgar born abt 1837 father said to be Thomas Edgar mother, Jane Muir.  I can find James after he marries in Closeburn in 1857 but having trouble before that.  Can you tell me where your James was in 1841 and 1851 so that I can eliminate him from the Jameses in Dumfriesshire.  I do not know where you are but do you have any access to the Dumfriesshire parish registers?  I do have access to Ancestry if you need a lookup for 1841 index.  Thanks again for taking the time to reply,

Thanks for the offer. James was in Castleton in 1841 and also 1851 that was the year he married Elizabeth Jackson.
I think i have searched enough on the Edgars im sticking with Jane Elliot now!
But it might help you i have some things on James father Charles, But i'll need to hunt them out so i'll get back to you..

All i have on Charles is he died in Canonbie in 1856 aged 62 parents William Edgar & Margaret Caurthers
Wife was Mary ...

I have checked the 1841 census and found James Edger (sic) in Castleton with an Elliot family. Adam Ellot 1801, Jean Elliot 1806, Henry Elliot 1813, Henry Elliot 1821 and  Thomas Wilson 1824. Also Charles Edgar is on the 1851 Dumfries Galloway Census site at Hallgreen in parish Canonbie ref no. 5/16, there is also a visitor in this household, a Margaret Little.  There is about a 12 year age difference between Charles Edgar and wife Mary. Don't know if this helps you but one never knows.

Hi, I am related to James Edgar 1827-1897 (Born Cannonbie, Dumfrieshire) who married Elizabeth Jackson 1831-1901( Born Castleton Parish) . I am related to their son James Edgar who married Janet Murray, their daughter was my great  grandmother. Is this the same people whom you refer to? I wish to trace this family further, do you know who the parents are of James and Elizabeth.  Would also like to know if there are any family members remaining in that area of Scotland.
