Harloe family Dublin
« on: Sunday 27 August 06 01:20 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I am looking for the Harloe familywho were in Dublin about 1824, their whereabouts in Dublin is unknown, as the only information I have is from the UK Liverpool census results for 1841/51/61.( It just states; Ireland and Dublin)

It would be nice to find John Harloe born about 1799 (just says Ireland :)on the census.) He was obviously able to read and write as he went on to work for HM Customs for the rest of his life in Liverpool as a Customs Officer.( he married in Ireland to a Margaret ? who died in Liverpool in 1858)

John's first child Charles was born in Dublin about 1824, then comes Micheal born Dublin about 1827 , finally Catherine born Dublin about 1833.

So far as I can see they were not Roman Catholic as all subsequent marriages were held in C of E churches as were burials, if that is of any help.

By 1841 they were all settled in Liverpool.

Can anyone shed any light on this family or point me in the right direction to look? I am ashamed to say my knowledge of Ireland is woeful, but hopefully that will improve ;D.

Many thanks,
kiwi

Hi Kiwi,

Why don't you take a look at Pigot's 1824 directory?
http://www.failteromhat.com/pigotl.htm

It might take a while to look for John Harloe as the directory is arranged alphabetically by trade, not by name, but this is the only online resource I can think of which might help you.

Best wishes,
Kirsten
