Hello again,
Have just received info about 4, Feathers Place from 1968 onwards thanks to the Heritage Centre, Greenwich.  Now I am more than curious about who lived here much earlier, in other words in the 1901 or 1891 Censuses.  I would very much appreciate it if someone could have a peep in these Censuses for me.
Apparently the house was built circa 1744, and there are two separate sets of initials in the brickwork, IW and CW and this date - might these belong to the builders?
Thanks for any help, however small...

Don't have an answer to 1891 or 1901, but have you seen who's there now!

The 1881 is searchable by street, although at first glance Feathers Place is not recognised.....more research needed me thinks  ;D

Hello, SB,

The street indexes for the 1891 & 1901 census show no Feather Place, Greenwich so I checked the ONS 1901 census.  This showed there was a Plume of Feathers Court, Greenwich North 1 so hoping this is right here is the info on No 4.

1891 census
Rg12/511  folio  80  page 16
4, Plume of Feathers Court, Greenwich

John Steer  age 52 ?  Waterman   b  Kent Sevenoaks
Mary A.  wife   age 41        b  Norfolk  Hilderstone
Anne Cole  Mother in law  W.  age 84  b Norfolk Gt.Whichenham

1901 census
Rg13/539  folio 89  28
4, Plume of Feathers Court, Greenwich

Mary A. Steer   W  age 51   b  Norfolk  Hilderstone.

Thankyou Carol and Meliora.
I have seen the new development form outside but had no idea what was behind the facade, quite a place!
No 4 is opposite, but as you both point out, I need to find the previous road name. Plume of Feathers Court is a possibility as it is the name of the pub very close by.
Thanks very much, Meliora for the census information.
I am intrigued to know how the house would have been used originally due to what seems to be a rather unusual layout of the rooms
Best Wishes

Hello again,
I have just heard that the previous name for Feathers Place was East Street, and that the numbers were the same.
Would it be too much to ask if anyone is able to supply details of residents at this address (n0 4) backwards from 1901 please?
Many thanks,
SB

SB,
Wonder whether Meliora will be kind enough to retrace her steps and have a look at 4, East Street in the 1901 now.  Afraid I don't have access to those Censuses yet, but thinking about subscribing in the near future.  Wonder why the street changed its name so drastically - the pub just down the road from the address you want is called "The Plume of Feathers", so the household you're after can't be far away from Meliora's original spot at 4, Plume of Feathers Court...

Hello Keith,
Well ,the kind person at Greenwich Heritage Centre, who replied very promptly today to my question said that Plume of Feathers Court adjoined the pub, although I don't think the Court exists any more- I'll have to look to see what is in its place.
Thanks for your help,
SB

Just one more point!
I have just been looking at the current A-Z, and see that the continuation of Feathers Place as described by the Heritage Centre is today called Eastney Street, so am wondering whether this was the name in 1901 rather than East St .
Thankyou to anyone who is able to help,
SB
