SMYTH(E) from Ballymena
« on: Thursday 24 August 06 16:07 BST (UK) »
My relatives came from Ballymena. They were John Smythe who was married to a Jane Wright and they had at least one child John Wright Smyth (born around 1850) who subsequently migrated to Australia. Can anyone shed any further light.

I have a Smyth in my family tree.  She was Jane Smith from Teeshan near Ballymena who married my ggg grandfather James Ross.  I did notice that there were quite a few Smiths in the Teeshan area when I searched Griffiths Valuation.  Their names were spelt both ways.  There was a John and a James and a Jane Smyth in Teeshan (Parish of Craigs) and a William and a James in  the townland of Craigs (Parish of Craigs).

McCormick (Killyleagh and finally Belfast)

P.S.  There are lots of Smyths in the town of Ballymena (Parish of Kirkinriola) and a couple of Wrights.  Have you the wedding certificate?

Unfortunately I don't have a wedding certificate. I obtained the names of John Smythe and Jane Wright off their son's wedding certificate but that is as far as I have been able to get. I don't know the names of any other siblings either and John Smyth seems to be a very common name which makes tracing difficult. Jane Wright is even more common.

Thank you Colette. Where did you get your information from. It may well have been that some of the family went to US while my ancestor came to Australia. Do you have any other information?
