If anyone is interested in names on photos, I may be able to help.  We have many of the original US photos with many of the names wrote on the back.  The were passed on to us by my grandfather, Tom Ponting.

I have a connection to a relative to Tom Candy Ponting. My grandfather was Tom Ponting who was born in, I believe, 1906. He is a grandson to Tom Candy Ponting, but I am not sure who his parents were. I am interested to find out which of Tom C Ponting's children were my grandfathers parents.

I have found two large family tombs in the church at Wellow Somerset. This is a neighboring village to Foxcote where the Ponting family came from in the 1600c. The names on the tombs are Richard Ponting. Mary wife of Joseph Ponting d. 7.5.1818. Mary dau. of Mary and Joseph d. 14.3.1814. Eleanor dau. of the above d.10.8.1815. Joseph father d.7.9.1822.
Along with Richard are Ann Beavon and Worthy Beavan. She was Ann Ponting. In the records his name is called Beaver?
Has anyone any information about this family. They are large tombs near the front entrance to the church,so one can presume the family was wealthy?

It's not sure whether the Richard PONTING referred to here is Joseph's father or his son.

However I would think that Joseph is a son of Richard and Mary PONTING, baptised on 4 September 1757 at Hemington, which is where Richard was living when he married Mary DEANS at Wellow on 8 Jun 1756.

Kind regards

Phil Candy

I am a Ponting and have my oldest Ponting ancestor back to Westerleigh in Glocs in 1680 - a Samuel Ponting and it all stops there. I had been exploring a possible connection with the Somerset Pontings (which must ultimately exist somewhere down the line). I went to Wellow this weekend and saw the Richard Ponting etc tombs outside but couldnt access neighbouring Foxcote cemetary. Quite simply there was nowhere and I mean nowhere to park a car within miles (roads are the narrowest ive ever been down in England) and the Church itself seemed permanently guarded by a growling dog (no joke!)

I'll try again when im next down in somerset...

Has anyone exploring Ponting connections with the village of Poyntington in North West Dorset. This village is only a short way away from the cluster of Pontings in Somerset in Somerset and South Glocs (and Wiltshire for that matter). Seems hard to ignore. May suggest name is not of French origin too as Poyntington is featured in the Domesday book as Punditone......
