Hi Claire

I think we may be researching the same Stringer family.   Joseph md Abigail Shaw at Kirkheaton on 22 Sept 1808.  He was baptised at Kirkburton 5 Oct 1782, his parents were Joseph & Mary.  Some of the family moved to Mottram in Longdendale in Cheshire.  Joseph & Abigail's son James moved to Bardsley nr Oldham in Lancashire.

I'd be interested to know if there is any connection with your research.

Hazel

I would be very interested in the church details you have for Kirkburton.  My GG grandfather was born there and given the unusual name of Hezekiah - his surname being Sykes.  His father was called Joseph.  If you have any info I would be most appreciative

Hi Harmax

I've got access to the Kirkburton baptisms, marriages and burials.  I've looked at the censuses (I can only find the family in 1861) and see that Hezekiah was born in abt 1844.  Unfortunately my baptism records only go up as far as 1837.  Do you know his mother's maiden name?

Joseph says he was born in 1817 in Lepton and there's a baptism on the IGI for a Joseph SYKES bap 15 Apr 1816 at Kirk Heaton with parents Josias and Sarah.  This family is living in Kirk Heaton in 1841.  Josias was bap in 1784 with father Joseph.

Josias was buried at Kirkheaton in 1852.

Thanks Claire, that's given me a really good start.  I'd thought with a name as unusual as Hezekiah finding a bit more about him wouldn't be too difficult, but it's proving otherwise!!
