Hello VMS & welcome to RootsChat

For the record, my paternal grandfather married Mabel Bishop, daughter of Thomas Bishop & Alice Allen b 1855. Alice was daughter of Robert Allen & Sarah.

I know Robert had brother John b 1820 but I haven't looked into what happened to him.

Regards John

Hi everyone, not sure if I'm doing this right, so here goes.  I am also researching the ALLEN family from Brampton, I stem from Christian ALLEN daughter of John ALLEN and Rachel BROWN who marr. Henry TRAVELL.  I go back as far as John ALLEN and Mary JACKSON, then Thomas and Christian.

I am frustrated that I can't find a birth nor parents for Rachel BROWN, so any help or ideas would be appreciated with this one.

I was lucky enough to have a lady look up some records in Brampton for me a couple of years ago but I am curious to know which ALLEN family that a John ALLEN that married my Charlotte ALLEN comes from.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Best wishes,
Maree :)

Hello Maree

Looking at the censuses I would say that John is the son of Susanna and is the one discussed right at the beginning of this thread.

He has the occupation of bricklayer in 1841 and 1851 and also in 1861 when he is with wife Charlotte - assuming I have the correct couple  :)

Hello Maree & Barbara

The John Allen baptised 24/07/1820 was son of John Allen & Susannah Bracegurdel. He married Charlotte Allen on 12/01/1853.  She was baptised  16/6/1816 at Brampton, daughter of John Allen & Rachel Brown.

Regards
John

Thanks for confirming that John - the names seemed familiar.

I have a distant connection to the Allen family as Jane Allen b Brampton 1839 married in to my Purser family.

Hi Barbara,
Thank you for the census info - it gets confusing with so many ALLEN's.
